Or can be short and sweet e g: Approximate External Sort
The abstract is an important part of any research paper , the abstract decides the fate of the research paper .For the abstract ,state the problem, your approach and solution ,and the main contributions of the paper .Also include background and motivations .The material in the abstract should not be repeated for any part of the research paper .
The introduction is important because by the time a reader has finished treading the introduction he has already made an initial decision about whether to accept or reject the paper, he will read the rest of the paper to find evidences to support his decision
The introduction should answer the following questions –what is the problem ,why is it interesting and important ,why do old approaches fail or why is it hard ,why hasn’t it been solved before and if tried to solve how does your approach differ ,results of your approach and any limitations if any .
Related work can be covered near the beginning of the paper or near the end.
If it is at the beginning, it should Have the following characteristics: It can be short yet detailed enough .It can be either a subsection at the end of the introduction or its own section2.
If it is present at the end, it can be summarized quickly early .In this case it should appear just before the conclusions.
The structure of the body varies a lot depending upon the content .important components are,
Running example: it can be either introduced as a subsection at the end of introduction or its own section 2 or 3 depending upon where you place related work.
Preliminaries: this section follows the introduction and possibly related work or running example sets up notation and terminology that is not a part of technical contribution .Important functions of these section is to delineate material that is not original but is needed for the paper.
Content: it includes system description; new language constructs analyses, etc .whenever possible use a top down description
What should performance experiments, measure –pure running time, sensitivity to important parameters, scalability in various aspects like data size, problem complexity.
What should performance experiments show- absolute performance, relative performance it naïve approaches
It should contain a short summarizing paragraph and should not repeat materials from abstract or introduction .It is now even possible to make original claims more concrete.
It should explain about how this work sets new research directions
Acknowledge anyone who contributed in any way: through discussions, feedbacks or drafts, implementation etc.
Check over your final bibliography carefully and make sure every entry looks right.
It should contain all material that most readers would not be interested in.
